Out of a sheer sense of boredom curiousity, I thought I’d compile a list of where you can see classic era (i.e. pre-1980s cancellation) episodes of Dr Who, preferably for free (video providers are listed in alphabetical order, by the way, no preference implied!). I warn you, it’s a real mistake unless you plan to subscribe. We made the mistake of buying one without meaning to subscribe, and the programme guide just got smaller because there’s a new channel “TopUp Showcase” that is ALWAYS on screen. In the 1920s, the BBC was transmitting a single television channel (actually the only television channel transmitting in Britain) using the first system to be given an ITU letter designation. System A was positive modulation – meaning that dropouts were light patches rather than dark ones, as seen in later systems such as the 625-line PAL system currently in us (until 2012, at any rate) in the UK.
