The first English poet

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The first poet in English – as opposed to Latin – was a divinely inspired swineherd at Whitby Abbey called Caedmon.  On one of my many travels around the Internet Archive I found an audio book of his famed poem…  Modern technology bringing some of the oldest technology back to life!

Small Basic

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Microsoft’s Small Basic, currently at version 0.4, looks interesting. As well as being a very small variant of Basic (14 keywords), it sounds like a nice easy way for the beginner-to-average (not to mention less than occasional) programmer to knock together some .Net applications. I might have a look myself and get back to you on it…

3 free albums…

Just noticed in my email that Nine Inch Nails‘ “The Slip” is now available as a real CD. It’s been available for free since May 5th I believe, and well worth the download time (or the purchase price, to be honest). There’s also a tour EP for free download as well.

Also available is the music from Sim City 3000 and Sim City 4: Rush Hour. If you haven’t played the games the Sim City 3000 one is a basically jazzy style soundtrack, quite mellow laidback and jaunty. I suspect SC4 is the same but as I can’t play it at the moment I don’t know (no computer I own that currently works will run it and the download hasn’t finished yet…)

Anyway, must dash. Download and enjoy!

Those nice people at VNUNet keep giving stuff commercial stuff away for nowt… for both commercial and non-commercial use.

No such thing as a free lunch? Well, maybe. But the sandwiches are available at Download Junkie: WiseFTP, aShampoo WinOptimizer, Serif PagePlus 8, PC Tools Spyware Doctor and Antivirus, East-Tec Backup and V-Com Fix It.

All very nice, should any of that be to your taste…
