Tweet new posts in WordPress…

After a long while not bothering to update WordPress, when I finally got around to installing version 3.1, which I had to do manually, as the automated updated didn’t work (it hasn’t worked in months). Immediately after running the (required) database update, I began getting 500 errors on the site. Not good.

A little internet search revealed that this is usually plugins. So I renamed the plugins directory on the server, which immediately disabled all my plugins, but at least got the admin dashboard back. Trying the plugins one after the other finally revealed the culprit – a twitter plugin that hadn’t been updated to be compatible with 3.0. So, after a long search, I’m trying the rather nice, low-footprint WordPress Tweeter. I’ll ask it to tweet this post and I’ll comment to tell you how it went.

Anyway, despite two hours work I did manage to get everything back up and running, but the good news
is I now have nice, up to date plugins. The polls plugin I was using hasn’t been updated, but again, I might experiment with something else – you never know :-)

It works rather well, actually, to be honest. Shame I messed up the template a bit, but it even used my API key and used bit.ly to shorten the link. Sweet! :-)

I’ll make certain to put this in good use!
